Situated in the central Serengeti, Fahari offers front-row access to one of nature’s greatest spectacles. The Great Migration passes through our doorstep — over a million wildebeest and zebra moving in an ancient, timeless rhythm.
Our expert naturalist guides have walked these plains for decades, revealing secrets of the bush that transform a game drive into a profound encounter with the wild.
The Serengeti is magnificent year-round — each season brings its own drama, its own wildlife spectacle, its own unforgettable light. Here is what awaits you at Fahari across the calendar.
Over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born in just three weeks across the southern Serengeti — one of nature’s greatest spectacles. Predator activity peaks as lion, cheetah and hyena converge on the herds. The plains are lush and green after the rains, making for extraordinary photography.
With fewer visitors than any other season, April to June offers some of the most intimate wildlife encounters of the year. The herds begin their northward march and the plains are a vivid green. Dramatic, stormy skies create extraordinary photographic light. Rates are at their most accessible.
The dry season brings the finest all-round game viewing of the year. Parched grass gives unobstructed sightlines, game congregates around diminishing water sources, and crystal-clear skies create perfect morning light. In the north, the dramatic Mara River crossings take place. This is classic Africa at its finest.
The great herds sweep south again as brief afternoon showers bring colour back to the plains. Wildflowers bloom across the Makoma Hills and the air turns sweet with petrichor. Resident wildlife is rich and plentiful, roads are in excellent condition, and the festive season at Fahari is particularly magical.
Fahari is open year-round. Every season is extraordinary in its own way.

"Serengeti" derives from the Maasai word Siringet — meaning "the place where the land runs on forever."
Our senior guides have spent decades in these plains. Here is their distilled wisdom to ensure your safari is nothing short of extraordinary.
The first hour of light is when the Serengeti is most alive. Predators are still active, the air is cool and the golden light is unmatched. Never skip the dawn game drive — it is almost always the most memorable.
“In 22 years guiding, the best sightings always come in that first hour.” — Emmanuel
Khaki, olive, tan and brown blend into the landscape. Avoid white and bright colours — they can disturb animals and alert prey. Neutral tones allow you to get closer and stay longer during game drives and bush walks.
A quality 10×42 pair transforms the experience. Spot distant herds, read animal behaviour at range, and find birds hidden in the canopy. Fahari has quality loaner pairs available for all guests who need them.
Recommended: Swarovski EL 10×42 or Leica Trinovid 8×42
When you encounter wildlife, resist the urge to whisper or move. Stillness allows animals to relax completely in your presence — a lion that trusts you will walk within metres of the vehicle. Patience is always rewarded.
“Animals give their trust to those who are still.” — Joseph, Head Guide
Makoma Hills mornings can be cold — a warm fleece is essential for the 6am drive. By midday temperatures reach 28–32°C. A wide-brimmed hat and SPF 50 are non-negotiable. We send a full packing list on booking confirmation.
The Serengeti reveals its secrets slowly. One night gives you a glimpse — three nights gives you a relationship with the land. By night two our guides know your interests; by night three, the bush feels like yours.
Perched atop the Makoma Hills in the central Serengeti, Fahari commands sweeping views across the golden plains in every direction. This elevated position places you above the drama of the ecosystem.
The central Serengeti offers year-round game viewing, with resident predators including lion, leopard and cheetah, and easy access to the iconic Seronera Valley.

Watching a leopard descend from an acacia tree at sunset from our private veranda — whilst sipping a gin and tonic — was the single greatest moment of my travelling life. Fahari is utterly, completely magnificent.
We chose Fahari for our honeymoon and it exceeded every expectation. Waking to the sound of lions roaring in the valley below, then having breakfast delivered to our private deck as elephants drifted past. This is Africa at its finest.
As a wildlife photographer, I have visited lodges across East Africa. None compare to Fahari’s position or the knowledge of their guides. I left with images I will be proud of for the rest of my career — and a deep desire to return.
Spaces at Fahari are limited by design. We host only a small number of guests at any time to ensure your experience remains intimate, personal and utterly extraordinary.
